Dry fit.

19 June 2008 - 6:18 a.m.

Ok, slowly, a dry fit of things (actually, my Les Paul Jr., not the big LP I'm working on):

I have 2 weeks to finish this! Whew.

The route.

15 May 2008 - 11:31 p.m.

Routed out the control channels, roughed out the top, and glued the 'cap' to the body (not shown, next time):

Indeed!

Les Paul back.

10 May 2008 - 10:19 p.m.

Whew. Slogging through it:

That's the mahogany back, of some African variety. I carved the cap out of that mesquite log, maybe should post some pictures.

Next step: routing this body for the electronics. Soon.

Begin Les Paul

12 April 2008 - 11:35 p.m.

Current project: building a clone of a Les Paul Electric guitar.

I split the billet (by hand) of the log that will serve as the cap, today:

I'm also going to wind the humbuckers (the pickups) by hand with some magnet wire that I got from an electronics shop here in Tucson. Neat.

Only thing that stinks is that my current bandsaw can only saw to a depth of about 3.5 inches, which means that I'll have to butcher block the top or something. Grrr. Nice piece of wood, though. It's from a tree that fell on my truck!

work!

21 November 2007 - 10:46 a.m.

There's a violin-making workshop that goes on in Tucson every year, so I have 2 violins to make by then if I hope to attend. It will be tight!

In other news, I'm experimenting with metal etching and plating techniques to clad the frogs of my bows. Pics soon, if the experiments are successful.

Whew. One cello bow made and done, 4 more bows to go:

Working with brass is intersting...
